CLASSMATE POST 1

Good evening!

I have taken my VARK assessment and my results said my learning preference is (Multimodal). So if you can relate to myself, the of this learning style states, “People with your preference like: different formats, graphs, diagrams, maps, interesting layouts, space, listening, discussing, talking, questioning, practical exercises, experiences, examples, case studies, trial and error, things that are real.” From going upon this data of my results, I can agree these different strategies help me engage with what I’m learning. I find this awesome because as we all know, this program is not necessarily based on memorizing what you learn but knowing how to apply this knowledge to real life scenarios! Yes, this is challenging and new to me but I feel I am still managing to retain new material just in a different perspective, kind of like thinking outside the box if that makes sense. I found combining the top 3 study methods I benefit well from is Aural; Visual; and Kinesthetic strategies (VAK). My scores were Aural:13, Visual:9, Kinesthetic:11, Read/Write:4. I was surprised when I seen aural and kinesthetic outweighed visual! But from reading aural preferences, I understand throughout my time in school these past couple years that I enjoy listening, talking and discussing! It helps so much when everyone involved in discussions voices their point of views. I am very big on listening to others perspectives and it fascinates me. It opens more doors to learning. I can have full advantage of having the opportunity to talk things over or even being able to comment on ideas or opinions of others. Moving onto kinesthetic, It’s nice to see that I have the potential to learn from case studies, real life examples, and even having a hands on approach. This learning style couldn’t be anymore perfect towards the nursing program. As for being a visual learner, I know that learning style won’t change for me, I grasped it at such an early age. I believe all three of these are very powerful to possess and will help myself in the long-run.

My learning style/study habits have changed so much since I started college. When I was a high school student, I did what was needed to get my diploma. I passed all my classes with good grades, showed up, and participated in class when instructed. From looking back, I feel the only thing that’s changed is my act in participation, time management, and not procrastinating as much as I use to.

To wrap it up, I took the practice exam on ATI A&P assessment this evening, I will share that I’m definitely retaking it Saturday! After lab today, I didn’t want to be too rusty on my anatomy and physiology so I studied for a hour and half before taking it just to get a refresher. Comparing it to my grades that I received in BIO 201 and BIO 202, I know for a fact I can get a better score. I’m not one to give up easily especially when I know I have the potential to improve and given another opportunity to score higher!

CLASSMATE POST 2

I have learned through my VARK assessment that my learning style is kinesthetic, and I do think that is an accurate of my learning style. The learning kinesthetic style was described as liking practical experiences such as case studies and being hands on as being my preferred method of learning. I do still enjoy reading the material but what ties it all together for me is putting the material in practice for me and seeing it real time how things work. I believe it is also a much better learning experience for myself when I do trial and error, I greatly learn from my mistakes and once I make a mistake I typically do not make the same mistake twice; hence why in testing or performing a skill I am able to remember what I did incorrectly in the past and be able to remember the correct process or procedures for whatever the situation may be.

The results of the ATI A& P assessment score in comparison to the grade I received are different, I overall did okay with my class and finished with a B, I ended up passing the A&P assessment with a higher score than that, mostly because I was able to get a refresher the first time I took it and did much better the second time.

I definitely think my study habits have drastically improved since I began college, when I started my prerequisites I was not yet in a mature state of mind and quite often procrastinated or simply did not do an assignment or study because I had other plans in mind. Now, 6 years later, I am much more prepared to take on the responsibility that it is to take a class and work towards a degree. I’ve learned that I have to make temporary sacrifices in order to succeed and actually put in the work and time it takes to obtain a degree.

Original Discussion Prompt:

Discuss the results of the ATI A& P assessment score in comparison to the grade you received in BIO201 and BIO 202.

Example of How to Respond to a Student Discussion Post:

Hi Nita,

I like how you discuss both the teacher observing the student and the student observing their own art. You bring up excellent points about the teachers observing the children, because it does help the teacher to better communicate with the children and understand them better. As teachers, it is very important to nurture students, particularly if they are very young, I think, because it allows them to better understand the needs of the student, and how to work with them. Paying attention to what the student is drawing, and seeing how the student reacts to their own work can improve the teachersÂ’ understanding.

Expressing feelings in this discussion board reply examples is a major component of growing up. The more a student is able to express those feelings, the more they can understand them. I liked reading about what you said on this topic, and I agree that the art is a very useful tool that students can learn to express their feelings effectively. If they do not express them, they are keeping them inside, and drawing can become a form of counseling for them. In my opinion, I think the drawing can be particularly useful for many students who are quiet. These students do not often express themselves verbally, and drawing can be a way for them to understand their feelings, and to release some pent up sadness of hostile feelings, for example. I think this form of therapy sticks with many people throughout life, and they continue to use drawing as a coping mechanism.

Thanks,

Steven
