ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Unit 5: Organizing and Starting to Wrap Up

Outcomes addressed in this activity:

Unit Outcomes:

Realize completion of a technology project.
Prepare a final project closure report.
Organize project documentation for storage and review.

Course Outcome:

IT599-3: Critical and Analytical Thinking: Apply best practices and recent theories to support implementation, modification, and review.

Purpose

This unit sees most of the project wrapping up, at least in the documentation. You will organize your files for storage and write a project closure report. All students need Microsoft Word plus access to Google Drive (through your PG school email).

Assignment Instructions and Requirements

First Steps

If your project is slated for completion or a portion has been designated for completion, it should be very close. Those who are working on hypothetical projects that would extend beyond the course should anticipate how the project would be expected to close.

Part 1: Google Drive Repository

Organize your files in Google Drive. If you need assistance, first check the link in the Reading section of the unit. When you are done, save the URL to this Drive and, importantly, ensure that your instructor is granted access to it. The Drive should look something like this inside the main folder:

Required contents:

Main folder

IT599-Proposal-LastName-FirstName
IT599-Implementation-LastName-FirstName
IT599-ProjectClosure-LastName-FirstName

Updates

IT599-PeerReview-LastName-FirstName
IT599-Update-Week3-LastName-FirstName
IT599-Update-Week4-LastName-FirstName

Another folder if appropriate (name it descriptively)

Any other documents related to your project, each named descriptively

WBS files (PM track only)

IT599-WBS-Week2-LastName-FirstName
IT599-WBS-Week3-LastName-FirstName
IT599-WBS-Week4-LastName-FirstName

Part 2: Project Closure

As usual, retrieve the assignment template to earn points for this assignment. Note that paragraphs will be single-spaced, and a blank line should be placed between paragraphs and headings for readability; this must look like a work document and not at all like a school paper. Keep all subheadings as presented in the template.

Cover:

Replace “Project Name” with a descriptive name for your project.
Replace “X” with either a real client’s name, a made-up client name, or your professor’s name.
Replace “Y” with your first and last names.
Replace “Z” with the date you completed this document.

Starting on page 2, replace “Content Here” with the following.

Important: some phrases and ideas may be pulled from previous assignments, but the bulk of the writing must be new.

Project Overview
Explain these four facets of your project:
Purpose
Scope, including goals and objectives
Risk management
Other concerns (culled from earlier assignment ideas)
Write in full sentences. Each of the four items should be in a separate paragraph.
Write 220–250 words for this section, with a minimum of 50 words in each paragraph.
Accomplishments
Describe these three facets of your project:
Budget performance
Scheduling performance
Final deliverable(s): If the project is available online, provide the full URL and an explanation.
Write in full sentences. Each of the three items should be in a separate paragraph.
Write 220–250 words for this section, with a minimum of 50 words in each paragraph.
Lessons Learned
Describe what went poorly and what went well with your project:
Activities, facts, or some other project facet that did not go as planned. In the absence of any negative aspects, explain what could have gone wrong.
Describe how you would deal with these problems better if they were to occur in future projects.
Activities, facts, or some other facet of the project that worked well.
Describe why you think these went well.
Write in full sentences. Present the negatives and the positives in two separate paragraphs.
Write a total of 160–190 words for this section, with a minimum of 70 words in each paragraph.
Recommendations
Describe the following:
Future enhancements for your project, such as the potential for adding scope or features, application to other fields, etc.
Recommendations for similar future projects. This might be based in part on the lessons learned, costs, or other facets but focused on what you might tell another IT professional in terms of the helpful commentary should they attempt a similar project.
Write in full sentences. Each of the two main concepts should be in separate paragraphs.
Write a total of 160–190 words for this section, with a minimum of 70 words in each paragraph.
Google Drive repository link
Add the full direct URL to the Google Drive containing your files.

Optional content

Should you feel that an additional section of information would be appropriate for your project’s documentation this week, add the subheading Addendum at the end of the template and insert this information after that subheading. This would not earn points but may be helpful in keeping pertinent documentation together. It is not required to include an addendum.

Additional Parameters

You may apply additional subheadings for this report if you wish but you must retain the main headings currently in the template.
This must be completed using your critical thinking and knowledge gained throughout the program instead of the direct use of source materials.
Any resources necessary for the project’s completion (such as vendors, tutorials, open-source materials, etc.) should be identified by name and full URL.
Proofread your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and formality. While first-person writing is allowed and logical in parts, limit it where possible.

Directions for Submitting Your Assignment

Name your Word document with the following convention:
IT599-ProjectClosure-LastName-FirstName (using your own name).
Check again to make sure your Google Drive is accessible to your instructor.
Make sure you read all instructions carefully and review the grading rubric before submitting to the Dropbox for the Unit 5 Assignment.

Plagiarism

You are expected to be the sole author of your work and that it is not copied from sources, as plagiarism will not be tolerated. PowerPoint With Audio: Help!

Next week involves creating a PowerPoint with audio. What are some recommendations you have for classmates when it comes time to do this?

This discussion only requires one post — your answer to the question above — posted within the Wednesday-through-Tuesday boundaries of the unit. Write at least 100 words in this post.

Additional rules:

Write your own descriptive subject line for your initial post — not your name, course or unit number, or the title shown above for this discussion. Labeling content is an important step in workplace documentation.
Write your posts entirely in your own words, without quoting or copying from sources.
Posts must demonstrate respect for others and use a professional (formal) tone.
To earn points, all of the parameters above must be met. No partial points are given.
